The position is for an Adjunct Instructor in the School of Business & Applied Technology at SOWELA. The instructor will utilize the approved curriculum, develop course objectives and learning outcomes, and organize instruction using Canvas. Responsibilities include supporting assessment initiatives, ensuring student completion and retention rates meet accrediting standards, providing training in essential competencies, attending meetings, and abiding by college policies. The instructor must check SOWELA email daily, complete mandatory training, and perform other assigned duties.

  • Utilize the approved curriculum.
  • Develop clearly stated course objectives and learning outcomes while ensuring that the objectives and content of the courses being taught are current.
  • Organize instruction using Canvas, as evidenced by the syllabus, course outlines, lesson plans, competency tests, and instructional materials that may include textbooks, software, and/or audiovisuals.
  • Support the School of Business and Applied Technology assessment initiatives.
  • Responsible for student completion, placement, and retention rates ensuring that they meet accrediting agencies' standards.
  • Responsible for providing training in the competencies essential to success in the occupation including attitudes, job knowledge, and skills.
  • Attend meetings and prepare reports, as necessary.
  • Abide by College policies and procedures.
  • Check SOWELA email daily.
  • Complete mandatory training.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited university.
  • Must meet SACSCOC credentialing requirements.
  • A minimum of five years as a practicing attorney in good standing.
  • A minimum of five years working with paralegals.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and software such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Smokeball, FastCase, or Pacer.
  • Adhere to all applicable Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) policies.
  • Must be able to instruct students in the completion of relevant projects.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and computers, utilizing a variety of software.
  • Create a positive learning environment for students using innovative, effective and diverse teaching methods.
  • Ensures tests and other means of assessing the achievement of students are sufficiently accurate.
  • Individual must be a committed, motivated self-starter who is capable of initiating and completing work with little supervision and/or as a part of a team on larger projects.
  • Promotes technical and community college education.
  • Ability to make independent decisions demonstrating good judgment.
