About The Position

The School of Professional Studies (SPS) invites applications from qualified individuals to teach one or two sections of graduate courses in Professional and Technical Spanish for students earning the Psychological Services to Spanish Speaking Populations (PSSSP) Certification. Classes may be presented in face-to-face or hybrid/blended format that may include real-time video conferencing. Sections available for faculty to teach on a per-semester basis as needed. Fully on-line classes are only available through the main San Antonio campus and do not apply to this posting.

Requirements

  • Minimum- Ph.D. in Spanish; Culture, Literacy and Language; Second-language Acquisition Theories and Practices; or Linguistics.
  • Proficiency equivalent to a native speaker of Spanish and of English.
  • Familiarity with current practices in language teaching/learning pedagogy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching 'heritage speakers.'
  • Knowledge of mental health matters.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare syllabi, lectures, assignments, and assessments, as appropriate to the course under the supervision of a lead professor.
  • Be available for individual student assistance (outside class time) at least one hour per week per section.
  • Respond to telephone or electronic communication from students within 24-48 hours.
  • Utilize the virtual classroom provided through Blackboard for all sections.
