About the position

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is seeking applications for adjuncts in Mathematics. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in mathematics (Quantitative Reasoning, College Algebra, and Elementary Statistics), including corequisite support sections, at the University's main campus in Athens, WV. Qualified applicants must have Master's in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver instruction on topics in introductory mathematics, following the course map provided.
  • Compile, administer, evaluate and grade students' assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; and keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
  • Contribute to the General Education Assessment through the collection and reporting of course data.
  • Develop curricula and instructional material such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Maintain office hours for students seeking academic advice, assist in student recruitment and retention; and assist students with course-related problems outside of the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning; experience interacting successfully with academically and culturally diverse student populations.
  • Experience teaching Quantitative Reasoning, College Algebra, and/or Elementary Statistics preferred.
