About The Position

Vermont State University Online seeks an adjunct instructor to teach a 3-credit Holistic Health course during the (semester) semester between (3/16/2026-5/3/2026). The course will be taught 100% online using Canvas. Vermont State University fosters the intellectual, creative, and personal growth of every student in a community committed to diversity and inclusion. We provide innovative professional and liberal arts educational experiences that prepare students to be critical thinkers and engaged global citizens. VTSU Online uses Canvas and provides a generic course template for all courses. The instructor is responsible for adding outcomes, academic materials, discussion and assignment that support the course description. Additionally, VTSU Online instructors are obligated to adhere to the VTSU Online Standards that address instructor presence, student engagement, instructor expectations, and assessment of student work. Course description: Naturopathic medicine is primary care with an emphasis on prevention and natural therapies - using a combination of homeopathy, nutrition, Chinese medicine, Ayurveda and Botanical. Naturopathic doctors are trained in 4-5 year medical schools to diagnose and treat most common health conditions using the most natural, safe and gentle therapies that work given the situation. Naturopathic doctors have recently been given legal status to practice medicine comparable to Allopathic medical physicians in the state of Vermont. A Naturopathic doctor can now be a patient's primary care physician who can prescribe pharmaceutical drugs, some surgical procedures and natural medical options for the treatment of disease. Naturopathic doctor medical services are now also covered by insurance. This course will cover the historical context, scientific background, training, scope of practice, regulation, appropriate use and therapies utilized in naturopathic medicine.

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess at least a master's degree in a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of experience teaching fully online, asynchronous courses is required, along with demonstrated familiarity with adult learning theory.
  • Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, a letter of reference, academic transcript, and statement of commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Experience with Canvas is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adding outcomes, academic materials, discussion and assignment that support the course description.
  • Adhere to the VTSU Online Standards that address instructor presence, student engagement, instructor expectations, and assessment of student work.
  • Instructors are expected to add weekly content including outcomes, readings, videos, discussions, and assessments in alignment with the course description, and follow and VTSU Online Standards of course design, readiness, instructor presence, engagement, assessment, and accessibility.
  • The full course must be ready and published at least one week prior to the start of the semester.
