About The Position

Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Adjunct Instructor in Music - Strings (Violin and Viola). This position involves teaching applied violin and viola, ensemble coaching, string techniques, and string pedagogy. The candidate must have the ability to teach Musicianship/Aural Skills and String Improvisational Techniques in a variety of styles. The courses include MUS 150, 250, 350, and 450 Applied Lessons for Freshman to Senior levels, as well as String Chamber Ensemble and Strings Methods courses. The instructor will also provide direction and supervision for student chamber groups and perform in Faculty and University ensembles as directed.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master of Music degree in Violin or Viola Performance, String Pedagogy, or equivalent.
• Ability to work in a team leadership setting and possess strong collaborative skills.
• Ability to teach Music Theory and Aural Skills courses.
• Prior experience teaching undergraduate level group and private strings.
• Ability to perform in a variety of music styles, including classical, popular, rock, jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, or fiddle techniques.

Nice To Haves

• Ph.D. or D.M.A. in Violin or Viola performance, String Pedagogy, or equivalent.
• Extensive solo, symphonic, and/or chamber music performance experience.
• Teaching experience at the college level and/or in the commercial industry.

Responsibilities

• Teach applied violin and viola, ensemble coaching, string techniques, and string pedagogy.
• Teach Musicianship/Aural Skills and String Improvisational Techniques in various styles.
• Provide direction and supervision for student chamber groups as assigned.
