Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Adjunct Instructor in Music - Double Reeds (Oboe/Bassoon). This position involves teaching applied double reeds (oboe and bassoon), ensemble coaching, woodwind techniques, and woodwind pedagogy. The candidate must have the ability to teach Musicianship/Aural Skills and Woodwind Improvisational Techniques in a variety of styles. The courses include MUS 150, 250, 350, and 450 Applied Lessons for Freshman to Senior levels, as well as Woodwind Chamber Ensemble and Woodwind Methods. The instructor will also provide direction and supervision for student chamber groups and perform in Faculty and University ensembles as directed.

  • Teach applied double reeds (oboe and bassoon), ensemble coaching, woodwind techniques, and woodwind pedagogy.
  • Teach Musicianship/Aural Skills and Woodwind Improvisational Techniques in various styles.
  • Provide direction and supervision for student chamber groups as assigned.
  • Perform in Faculty and University ensembles as directed.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master of Music degree in Oboe or Bassoon Performance, Oboe or Bassoon Pedagogy, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a team leadership setting and possess strong collaborative skills.
  • Ability to teach Music Theory and Aural Skills courses (preferred).
  • Ability to perform in a variety of music styles, including classical, popular, rock, jazz, and blues.
  • Ph.D. or D.M.A. in Oboe or Bassoon performance, Oboe or Bassoon Pedagogy, or equivalent.
  • Extensive solo, symphonic, and/or chamber music performance experience.
  • Teaching experience at the college level and/or in the commercial industry.
