About The Position

Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks part-time faculty to teach history courses. Adjunct Faculty teach and evaluate students, prepare and revise course syllabi and other educational materials. Part-time Adjunct Faculty will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students' diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Part-time Adjunct Faculty contribute to the overall operation of the College, support the mission of the institute, and employ the philosophical commitment of the community college environment. Requirements

  • M.A. in History.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.
  • The ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Has a disposition towards developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience at the college level preferred.
  • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.
  • Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred.
  • Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity and helps students problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student centered and promote students' active participation in their own learning.
  • Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.
  • Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.
  • Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging amongst students.
  • Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one's specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology and continuously reflect on and refine their craft.
  • Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
  • Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn.
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students' varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.
  • Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
