About The Position

The Department of Modern & Classical Languages has an opening for a part time instructor to teach two sections of French 101 - Introductory French in the Fall 2025 semester, beginning Monday, August 25, 2025. The schedule for the three classes is: FRE 101A, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10:05 am - 11:00 am; and FRE 101B, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 11:10 am - 12:05 pm. However, the times could possibly be adjusted.

Requirements

  • Native or near native French fluency
  • Thorough knowledge of subject matter
  • Ability to plan and present instructional material in a clear, logical and concise manner
  • Ability to maintain proper teacher-student relationship
  • Sound professional judgment
  • Initiative and resourcefulness
  • All applicants are required to be New York State residents.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in area of specialization preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Use a communicative approach to the teaching of a foreign language, using the target language as much as possible, with minimal English for clarification of some grammar points.
  • Prepare daily lesson plans and activities using a textbook that engage students in their study of beginning French, following a syllabus provided by the Department Chair.
  • Prepare and grade chapter exams and quizzes, with resources provided by the textbook company; manage an online program for daily homework; and evaluate student performance.
  • Maintain a class record and keep attendance.
  • Be available for students by appointment to help them with any specific problems they might be having with the course material.
