The Adjunct Instructor for the Community Education ESL Program at Utah Valley University is responsible for teaching a variety of ESL courses, including listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. The instructor will develop course materials, manage classroom dynamics, evaluate student performance, and maintain accurate records. This role emphasizes a student-oriented approach to education and requires effective communication and instructional skills.

  • Teach a variety of ESL courses including listening and speaking, pronunciation, reading and vocabulary, grammar, and writing.
  • Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course.
  • Prepare instructional materials such as course syllabi, exams, and visual aids.
  • Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in class using appropriate teaching methods.
  • Evaluate instruction and learning through various testing methods (oral, written, etc.).
  • Maintain a student-oriented approach to education and establish a positive classroom environment.
  • Recommend students for advancement and program completion.
  • Maintain and submit accurate reports and records involving student attendance and performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 5 years of direct experience in the field of ESL education.
  • Master's Degree in TESOL or applied linguistics (preferred).
  • TESOL certification (preferred).
  • Knowledge of subject matter and content of English as a Second Language.
  • Knowledge of current trends in education, counseling, technology, and advising.
  • Skill in instructional strategies and techniques of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
  • Skill in curriculum and course development and evaluation.
  • Interpersonal, problem solving, decision-making, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (orally and in writing).
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Supervising experience.
