About The Position

Under general supervision, the primary responsibility is providing classroom instruction in the EMS programs offered by WCTC or clinical instruction in the hospital and clinical setting for EMT and Paramedic courses. Requires strong organizational skills, good communication skills, an ability to effectively deliver practical hands-on instruction and include technology in the teaching of classes, and familiarity with all aspects of the Fire and Emergency Medical Services fields. Must be accessible to students and maintain positive relationships with industry-related organizations and businesses. The successful applicant will be responsible for completing requirements to obtain and maintain a current teaching certification from the Wisconsin Technical College System Board.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with education or training preparing a person for the occupational area being taught.
  • Twenty-four months (4,000 hours) of verifiable occupational experience as a fully qualified worker in the occupational area.
  • Current State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) EMS Instructor I certification at the EMT level, Paramedic preferred.
  • Current State of Wisconsin EMT licensure (or equivalent, including Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Physician). Paramedic preferred.
  • Eligibility for WCTC Credentialing System.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and instruct quality education programs.
  • American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and PALS Instructor preferred.
  • Technology-based, simulation, and scenario-based instruction experience desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • A major in a healthcare, fire service, emergency medical, or other related area is preferred.
  • Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom instruction in EMS programs.

  • Promote and coordinate professional development opportunities for Fire/EMS instructors.
  • Increase marketing of Fire and EMS training programs.
  • Prepare competent Fire/EMS providers for local employers.

Benefits

  • Salary: Classroom Lab and Clinical Instruction $40/hour; Non-instructional $20/hour.
