About The Position

Provide in-person clinical teaching and patient care at the University Eye Center campus clinic (Big Rapids). The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to provide clinical education on a semester-by-semester basis. Compensation for the position is determined by degree held, residency, experience and certifications. The anticipated start date is September 2025 and remains ongoing as needed.

Requirements

• Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree at the time of appointment.
• At least one year of residency experience or at least 2 years in patient care work experience.
• Eligibility for a Michigan optometry license with DPA and TPA certifications.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience supervising and training optometry interns.
• Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in patient care and clinical instruction.
• Be accessible to students outside of regular clinical assignment hours.
• Participate in traditional functions that have academic significance, including assessing students' clinical proficiency.
• Provide in-person instruction.
• Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences.
• Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
• Participate in related FSU and/or college specific training and development activities.
• Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
