Essential Functions Provide Student Instruction in Program Courses as Assigned Provide instruction to a diverse student population in the Automotive program. Determine the appropriate material to be covered in the course(s) assigned to teach (subject to program chair and division dean approval). Maintain positive classroom atmosphere and handle discipline problems. Develop New Courses and Update Existing Courses Develop new courses and update existing courses as required to keep the Automotive program current with industry standards and processes. New course development includes writing course objectives, developing syllabi, developing handouts and tests, and researching textbooks for course use. Also the updating of existing course to ensure that the course is current with industry standards is required. Review and recommend tools and equipment needed for quality instruction in the Automotive Program. Maintain and Upgrade Automotive Classroom/Laboratory Instructional Facilities and Equipment Responsible for security and maintenance of all instructional facilities and equipment and to ensure that it is maintained in a safe and proper working order for student use. Complete and Maintain Program and Student Records Responsible for maintaining permanent student records on courses taught and following and enforcing college policies regarding attendance policy, grading policy, and student achievement. Assist with the completion of purchase orders when ordering program instructional supplies and equipment. Complete production orders on all production projects, and maintain inventory records of all program equipment for the assigned laboratory areas. Maintain Technical Competency in Teaching Area Required to stay technically competent in all areas of teaching responsibilities by attending seminars, professional association meetings, educational workshops, and self-study. Participate in College and Program Activities and Teams Will attend, participate in and support all program activities (i.e. advisory committee meetings, open house, division meetings, etc.), College activities, and teams as requested. Act as Student and Technical Advisor for the Automotive Program Will advise Automotive program students on academic standing, support and explain College policies and procedures with students, and complete all records, forms, etc. as necessary for proper articulation and program operation. Counsel students with questions or problems they may have either on or off campus. Schedule Work – Live Shop Projects Schedule work for student projects and keep customer informed of progress and cost. Supervise/teach students during lab projects. Assist student and Parts Department in obtaining the necessary and correct parts. Test drive vehicles and evaluate student lab activities and projects during and after student has completed required work. Handle Telephone Calls and Automotive Customers Handle telephone calls about the Program, students, jobs, placement, and customers wanting repair work or reporting progress on their vehicle. Stress Safety Stress safety – making sure students work safely, wear safety glasses, and follow proper safety procedures. Perform Other College and Program Duties as Assigned Perform other College and program related duties as assigned. This will include, but is not limited to, substitute teaching as required, developing budgets, advising program chair and division dean as requested, supporting and promoting the College and the Automotive program, support student recruitment, assisting in the security of all College and program materials and equipment, and assisting in supervising student help. Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors) Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction. Professional Development Faculty should work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan of professional development and improvement.
