The School of Education seeks candidates to teach on a semester-by-semester, as needed basis, in the areas of Early childhood (birth to 5 years), elementary education, and secondary education at one of Ferris State University's campuses. Candidates must be available to teach face-to-face and synchronous on-line courses during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, some evenings may be required. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. This posting is used for face to face and/or online instruction. For in-person or hybrid teaching positions, candidates must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. For courses that are taught 100% online, the candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, or Wisconsin after acceptance of employment.

  • Teach assigned courses in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education.
  • Provide up-to-date coursework and course-related materials.
  • Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Keep office hours at times convenient for students.
  • Meet with classes at their scheduled times.
  • Effective teaching by way of good communication, assessment of student learning, and adaptation to various levels of student preparation.
  • Carry out teaching and professional development responsibilities under the supervision of the Chair of the School of Education and the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education (or their designee).
  • Maintain the confidentiality of designated information and perform duties in compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Participate in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
  • Support, promote, and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related field.
  • 3 years of experience at the appropriate age level- birth- 5 and/or K-12 grades.
  • Previous experience teaching at the college level.
  • PhD. or Ed.D. in Education or a closely related field.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment, experience and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
