About The Position

We are seeking adjunct faculty to teach one course or a variety of courses, in one or more of the following degree programs: Building Construction Technology AAS, Civil Engineering Technology AAS, and Construction Management BS. In addition to the more common topics associated with the degree programs, experience in construction, surveying, construction finance, construction law, and virtual design and construction will be considered. Assignments may be lectures or labs; face-to-face, blended or online; in Big Rapids and/or Grand Rapids. A focus on student success, office hours, and use of current technology are expected. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related field plus five years full-time US commercial or industrial construction experience (required to teach 300 and 400 level courses).
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or appropriate related field and an MBA plus eight years full-time US commercial or industrial construction experience (required to teach 300 and 400 level courses).
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or appropriate related field and ten years full-time US commercial or industrial construction experience (required to teach 100 and 200 level construction courses).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction, surveying, construction finance, construction law, and virtual design and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Meet established course outcomes.
  • Plan, deliver, and grade all course content and student work for assigned courses.
  • Conduct construction management, building construction technology, and civil engineering technology classes, labs, or other assignments as directed and in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a minimum of one hour per week per course section for office hours to meet with students outside of class or lecture at a time convenient to the students.
  • Keep regular posted office hours scheduled at times convenient for students.
  • Participate in traditional functions which have academic significance (e.g., reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
  • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
