About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking adjunct faculty to teach on-site in San Diego, CA, for its Business program. Specifically, the role involves teaching the course "Building Sustainable Futures" (BMGT 240). This course explores how businesses can achieve long-term sustainability by integrating responsible practices into their core operations. It covers examining environmental and societal impacts, conducting sustainability audits, developing circular economy strategies, and improving operational efficiency. The curriculum emphasizes balancing profitability with ethical decision-making, stakeholder expectations, and climate resilience, utilizing case studies and applied projects to develop actionable strategies that align business practices with sustainability goals and generate value for organizations and society. UMGC is a mission-driven institution with a "Students First" philosophy, serving approximately 90,000 adult learners globally, including a significant population of active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, veterans, and their families. Adjunct faculty at UMGC are expected to be scholar-practitioners who are actively engaged in their professional fields and committed to guiding the next generation of professionals.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Business or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in Sustainability, Business Strategy, or related fields.
  • Directly relevant, current and active industry professional experience in Business or closely related field.
  • This position is specifically to teach on-site in San Diego, CA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
