About The Position

The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking adjunct faculty to teach on-site in San Diego, CA, for its Graduate Business Administration program. Specifically, the role involves teaching the Innovation & Entrepreneurship (BMGT 620) course. This course examines innovation and entrepreneurship within a business context, focusing on applying principles to the creation, development, and management of new ventures. Topics include innovation principles, design thinking, opportunity recognition, funding, scaling entrepreneurial ventures, and addressing innovation challenges in existing organizations. The goal is to foster critical thinking about innovation and provide practical experience in managing innovation and developing new ventures. UMGC is a mission-driven institution serving approximately 90,000 adult learners, including a significant number of active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, veterans, and their families. The university emphasizes a "Students First" approach and seeks scholar-practitioners who are actively engaged in their fields to guide the next generation of professionals.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • 3 years of prior teaching experience in innovation management, entrepreneurship, design thinking, venture creation, or business strategy.
  • Directly relevant, current and active industry professional experience in Business or closely related field.
  • Successful completion of our online two-week new faculty orientation, FacDev 411, as a condition of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed and conveys genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
