About The Position

Carlow University's Department of Computational and Chemical Sciences invites applications for an adjunct faculty instructor in Quantitative Reasoning for the Fall 2026 semester. Qualified individuals must hold a master's degree, with a minimum of three years of experience in science or mathematics, to serve in this role. This is a part-time position located on our Pittsburgh campus. Course materials and mentoring will be provided. Candidates must demonstrate and reflect understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of the University and the Sisters of Mercy and experience working with diverse populations. Requirements

  • Master's degree required
  • 3 years of recent experience in science or mathematics.

  • Candidates must be available for on-campus teaching multiple days per week.
  • This course is a required course for undergraduates that introduces quantitative reasoning skills to first year students.
  • Sections will be taught face-to-face Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
  • Candidates must demonstrate and reflect understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of the University and the Sisters of Mercy and experience working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 1-2 sections of Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes.
  • Develop course lectures, assignments, and tests, following a standard course syllabus, in conjunction with the course coordinator.
  • Be available to students via email and personal meetings.
  • Assign grades and maintain student records in accordance with FERPA regulations.
  • Meet all course responsibilities, including class meeting times and office hours, throughout the semester.
