About The Position

Teaching faculty are professional educators who have the primary responsibility of fulfilling the District mission of providing a quality education for all students attending the colleges. Categories include full-time, temporary with benefits, and temporary without benefits. Full-time faculty members are classified according to the ranks of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Faculty members are responsible to a department/program chairperson. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of leader, teacher, advisor, and facilitator of learning. Faculty members will uphold the mission and values of the colleges' and foster effective working relationships with students and colleagues. To view a complete job description, click here.

Requirements

  • Master's or higher degree in Political Science or Related field. Related fields include Government, Public Administration, Public Management, Public Policy, Public Affairs, Political Economy, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Politics; or Master's in any discipline with 18 graduate hours in Political Science or related fields listed above.
  • Must submit a cover letter and unofficial transcripts demonstrating minimum education qualifications (Official transcripts will be requested if selected for an interview).
  • Willingness to teach in all modalities: in person, hybrid, online zoom synchronous, online synchronous, or Hy-Flex.
  • Willingness to be certified by SAC Teaching and Learning to teach in all modalities by completing SAC OTC program.
  • Willingness to teach at all times of day, morning, afternoon, at night, or on weekends as required.
  • Willingness to teach in all parts of terms: 16 weeks; 14 weeks; 8 weeks; 5 weeks, or 3 weeks as required.
  • Willingness to meet with students outside of class by appointment to discuss courses.
  • Must reside in San Antonio or the greater Metropolitan San Antonio Area and is willing to commute to campus to teach in-person courses.

  • A Ph.D. in one of the fields listed above in the minimum qualifications section.
  • Experience studying Texas Politics and American Politics at the gradate level, or teaching Texas or American Politics at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience in Mexican American Politics.
  • A background in statistical analysis, or data analysis.
  • Familiarity with distance learning (CANVAS,LMS, Zoom, or Teams).
  • Practitioner experience in local, state, or federal government organizations and/or agencies.
  • Certificate in online teaching issued from an accredited institution of higher education . QM AOOQMR Certificate for 7th edition or higher.
