About The Position

The Adjunct Faculty for Phlebotomy at Lone Star College is responsible for providing learning activities and support that lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. The primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. This position is part-time and hired on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Classes may be offered during the day, evening, and weekends, and adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or Nursing licensure, or Medical Assistant licensure, or Phlebotomy certification.
• Mastery of course content.
• Demonstrates interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies.
• Demonstrated leadership skills emphasizing collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Commitment to academic excellence and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement.

Responsibilities

• Teaches Phlebotomy courses at various times and locations.
• Participates in clinical rotation assignments by supervising clinical laboratory learning experiences.
• Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
• Maintains knowledge of current accreditation and certification procedures.
• Interfaces with affiliated hospitals or free-standing laboratories to promote student experience and education.
• Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
• Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
• Meets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment.
• Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives.
• Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
• Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
• Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.
