About The Position

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks adjunct faculty to teach a section of Psychopathology and Mental Health Sciences, and Introduction to Counseling Skills, on our Boston campus during Spring 2026. The courses meet on Mondays from 11am-1:45pm, and on Wednesdays from 11am-1:45pm, respectively. Psychopathology Course description: This course provides a broad survey of mental disorders described in the DSM/ICD, including etiology, assessment, and treatment. Students will examine interdisciplinary evidence regarding psychological health, in the context of contemporary clinical practice. Introduction to Counseling Skills Course Description: This course prepares future healthcare professionals for positive patient interactions. This course equips students with essential communication, empathy, and ethical skills necessary for effective healthcare encounters. Students explore culturally sensitive approaches to build strong patient-provider relationships with the goal of improving healthcare adherence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master's degree in Health Sciences, Public Health or related field
  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience at the college/university level
  • Commitment to undergraduate, graduate and/or professional education and student success
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals)
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. MCPHS is unable to sponsor, or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa. MCPHS is also not an E-Verify institution.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver didactic, laboratory and/or experiential instruction via multiple formats (in-person, online, or in a 'blended' format)
  • Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria
  • Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.
  • Uses the University's learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
  • Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
  • Provides service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor
