About The Position

SUNY Sullivan is seeking applicants to fill a part-time adjunct position in the Business/Hospitality department, known as The Catskill Hospitality Institute. The individual must possess the ability to teach seated, online, and hybrid. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to the community college philosophy, active engagement within the local business and hospitality industries, culture of belonging, and an enthusiastic outlook for student success. Business and Hospitality/Tourism degree programs offered within the Catskill Hospitality Institute include: Accounting Studies (CERT) Business Accounting (AAS) Business Administration (AAS) Business Administration (AS) Business Administration Marketing (AAS) Tax Preparer (Micro) Tourism (CERT) Hospitality Tourism Management (AAS) A sample of a course that may be asked of the individual to teach includes, but is not limited to: Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism Principles of Advertising Principles of Sales Hospitality Cost Control & Purchasing Principles of Management Business

Requirements

  • Master's from an accredited institution
  • Professional work experience within the fields of business and/or hospitality
  • License in the subject area, where applicable
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience, community college experience is a plus
  • Ability to teach various modalities and experience with learning management systems such as Brightspace
  • Prior online course instruction
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching and possess the ability to effectively interact with a diverse student and staff population

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate preferred
  • Experience in higher education

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present a course syllabus based on the agreed-upon curriculum and department standards
  • Evaluate and assess students on the course learning outcomes
  • Provide advisory services for students seeking extra help and career guidance through weekly office hours
  • Develop and follow clear and transparent grading practices
  • Timely submission of requested grades, attendance records, and academic paperwork by posted deadlines
  • Hold appropriate office hours
  • Take part as needed in typical activities of a full-time faculty member, including the following: advising/mentoring students, developing curriculum, recruiting students, and attending division and faculty meetings
