About The Position

The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide quality instruction to WWCC students enrolled in classes taught at the main campus in Rock Springs, or at an outreach center or high school in the Western Wyoming Community College district. Teaching a course over the Internet and/or teaching an evening course is also a common expectation. This individual must be able to relate to a wide variety of students in the community college environment. This individual's responsibilities will include teaching courses in general biology for majors and non-majors. It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner, and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual must follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Biology or a related field, with at least 18 graduate level credit hours in Biology.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles and practices of biology.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and administrators.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student-teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Biology or a related specialty.
  • Experience using active approaches to learning; experience using alternative methods of learning, such as interactive software, Internet, or individualized modular programs.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at a community college/university.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses which may include introductory biology for majors and non-majors.
  • Provides quality instruction in biology lectures and laboratories both online and in evening settings.
  • States clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus; follows the Curriculum Committee's guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrates appropriate WWCC Goals for Student Success into each course; evaluates students' performance in light of these objectives and criteria.
  • Teaches courses in a variety of environments and modes as required. Courses may be offered in the fall, spring or summer semesters and on varying schedules (i.e., 8- or 16-weeks), and may meet during the day, evening, weekend, or online in Rock Springs or at one of WWCC's outreach centers.
  • Designs and implements effective learning processes for students; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the College's Learning Goals.
  • Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including the e-mail and calendar system, and Canvas; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
  • Refers students to the resources in the College Learning Center, Peer Tutor Center, Math Advancement Center, NetTutor, Wellbeing and Accessibility.
  • Maintains an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies in assigned areas; takes prudent efforts to safeguard WWCC physical resources from unauthorized use. Maintains safe working conditions and practices.
  • Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner.
