About The Position

The East Tennessee State University Department of Music is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach bass beginning in the fall 2025 semester. The primary focus will classical double bass, but candidates with the ability to also teach electric bass in jazz and commercial styles are strongly preferred. Courses will include applied bass, bass studio, string methods (for music education majors), string pedagogy, and chamber music. Additional courses may be available depending on the skill set of the individual and the needs of the department. Candidates with experience teaching music theory, aural skills, jazz courses, or any other music area should clearly indicate these interest areas in the cover letter. The Department of Music is composed of 175 undergraduate students and a new graduate program (beginning fall 2025). Salary: $1000 per credit for faculty with a doctorate degree; $900 per credit for faculty with a master's degree. The expected load in the first year is to be no less than 6 credits each semester. Additional courses are added if qualified. Faculty may also teach private lessons in the Community Music School. Recruitment activities are paid on an hourly basis and strongly encouraged.
