About The Position

The Adjunct Faculty - Foundations + Graphic Design position is a part-time role within the Visual & Performing Arts/Art Transfer department at Bristol Community College. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching and developing curriculum/course material for Computer Graphics, Two-Dimensional Design, and/or Typography, while providing student support through various interactions. The position may involve teaching in online, hybrid, or face-to-face modalities across multiple locations including Attleboro, Fall River, New Bedford, and Taunton, and may require teaching during the day, evening, or weekends. The role is contingent upon sufficient enrollment and is set to start in the Academic Year 2025-2026.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master of Fine Arts degree in graphic design or communication design.
  • Demonstrated experience with college-level teaching or relevant professional experience.
  • Professional practice that includes application of industry standards for design methodology and production.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.

  • Demonstrated active experience in professional practice integrating evolving tools across diverse media.
  • Experience with accessibility in professional practice.
  • Experience at a community college, either teaching or as a student.
  • Understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and design Art & Foundations course material to meet learning outcomes and promote active student participation.
  • Assess student learning and assign grades using equitable and inclusive pedagogies.

  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and problem-solving.
  • Employ various assessments to ensure classroom instruction leads to student learning outcomes.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to technology, academic innovation, and equity.
  • Complete required college employee trainings annually.
  • Adhere to workload specifications in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Be available to students for assistance in meeting course requirements.
  • Foster student success across a diverse student body.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and reflect the college's core values.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda in all job functions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
