About The Position

The School of Humanities at Kentucky State University (KSU) invites applications for an Adjunct (non-tenure-track) position in English at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level. This position will teach English courses within a 16-week framework. In-person instruction is preferred, but online instruction may be considered if appropriate. The teaching load will typically consist of one to two undergraduate English composition and/or literature courses. Candidates will be expected to prepare course materials, deliver instruction, and effectively support undergraduate students in developing essential reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in English, English Literature, Composition, Rhetoric, or a closely related field; or at least 18 graduate-level credit hours in English.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and student academic development.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging course content and evaluate student learning effectively.
  • Experience developing course syllabi and other instructional materials.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems such as Blackboard.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively in a university setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver course content in a clear and effective manner that supports student learning and achievement of the outcomes outlined in the course syllabus.
  • Create and post a course syllabus and class schedule for each assigned course. Develop and distribute course materials, including handouts, lectures, readings, presentations, and assignments.
  • Establish and communicate clear course learning objectives. Develop rubrics and assessment tools aligned with those objectives to evaluate student progress and performance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date course and student records in accordance with FERPA regulations. Submit grades and any required documentation by established deadlines.
  • Maintain availability to students through regular office hours and be responsive to questions and requests for additional academic support.
  • Attend all scheduled class meetings and fulfill other professional responsibilities such as office hours and required departmental meetings.
  • Teach undergraduate English courses such as composition, literature, and writing across various formats including in-person and, if applicable, online delivery modes.
