About The Position

An adjunct instructor is appointed on a term contract for instructional, temporary and part-time assignments. They are not assigned to other responsibilities such as professional service or college service. They have no right to reappointment. Persons appointed at this rank will vary in minimal academic qualifications but generally shall have a relevant doctoral or equivalent terminal degree to teach at the upper division and graduate level, and a master’s degree for lower division courses. All degrees shall be from accredited institutions or from internationally reputable and recognized institutions. Exceptions to these requirements may be made by the Provost upon presentation of evidence of a record of experience or other credentials that indicate academic degree equivalence. Adjunct Faculty members can only serve as Faculty Senators if they teach during the current semester or have taught within the last fiscal year.

Requirements

  • Masters of English.
  • Three years of practicing experience in the designated field is required.
  • Experience teaching composition is preferred.
  • One to three years of experience with distance education is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students on a per course basis for English academic courses necessary for the pursuit of certificates and associates degree in various disciplines.
  • Prepare and present course descriptions, lesson plans, and classroom lectures, and implement techniques to facilitate student-active learning.
  • Prepare and grade tests and quizzes; develop handouts and other learning aids.
  • Participate in program and curriculum development and outcome assessments at the conclusion of each semester to the Academic Director.
  • Provide one-to-one student supervision and/or counseling, advising and tutoring.
  • Analyze and document student progress; coordinate and schedule student tutors as appropriate.
  • Participate in student recruitment, retention and placement efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
