About The Position

The South Louisiana Community College is seeking an unclassified adjunct instructor for the Electrical program within the Workforce & Economic Development department. The instructor will be responsible for providing and supporting classroom and lab instruction, ensuring that lectures contain essential curricular components and reflect current industry trends. The role includes maintaining a safe and orderly lab area, preparing course syllabi, evaluating student progress, and utilizing technology for record-keeping and communication. The instructor will also develop professional relations with business and industry, advise students on career pathways, and fulfill professional assignments in accordance with the college calendar.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 5 years of field experience in the trade of Electrical.
  • Must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of trade, including current industry practices, safety standards, tools, and techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree
  • At least eight years of experience working within the trade at a Journey Level.
  • Possession of a recognized license or industry certification in the trade is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing and supporting classroom and lab instruction for the Electrical program.
  • Ensuring classroom lectures contain essential curricular components, have appropriate content and pedagogy, and reflect current industry trends.
  • Maintaining a safe, orderly, and up-to-date lab area for the application of multiple labs within the Electrical curriculum.
  • Preparing and providing course syllabi and instructional materials to students.
  • Evaluating and reviewing students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.
  • Keeping appropriate records of testing, grading, and attendance in accordance with college standards.
  • Utilizing technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, communicate with others, and facilitate learning.
  • Maintaining student discipline through effective classroom management.
  • Developing and maintaining professional relations with business and industry through visits and advisory committee meetings.
  • Advising and supporting students regarding career and educational pathways.
  • Attaining, maintaining, and reviewing program and certification requirements, as appropriate.
  • Fulfilling professional assignments in accordance with the South Louisiana Community College calendar and contractual obligations.
  • Partnering with business and industry to promote the Electrical program.
  • Participating, as appropriate, in additional duties and responsibilities based on individual expertise and the needs of the department, division, or College.
  • Working assigned schedule while exhibiting regular and predictable attendance.
