About The Position

The position involves planning, organizing, and instructing courses at Northwest-Shoals Community College across various schedules including day, evening, or weekends. The instructor is expected to maintain a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and to stimulate enthusiasm among students. Responsibilities include recommending instructional materials, grading student work promptly, conducting evaluations, maintaining office hours, and ensuring classes are held as scheduled. The instructor will also be involved in curriculum development, student advisement, and participation in faculty meetings and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent (at least 60 semester hours in a planned program including associate degree core), required.
  • Minimum of three years documented full-time experience as a practitioner in the trade, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience, preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new instructional technology including multimedia and distance learning formats.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and instruct courses on any Northwest-Shoals Community College campus as assigned.
  • Keep active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught.
  • Recommend textbooks and instructional materials to the Division Chairs.
  • Participate in library collection development.
  • Keep students informed about their progress through prompt grading.
  • Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations.
  • Post and maintain office hours for student consultations.
  • Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled.
  • Hold final exams at the scheduled time unless otherwise approved.
  • Strive for qualities delineated in faculty evaluation criteria.
  • Refer students to counselors as needed.
  • File an appropriate course syllabus or outline with the Division Chairperson.
  • Submit required reports to administrative personnel.
  • Attend faculty meetings, college assemblies, and professional development activities.
  • Plan each unit or lesson to make each class minute meaningful.
  • Organize each course into an effective instrument of learning.
  • Utilize students' learning styles to facilitate the best teaching situations.
  • Incorporate instructional technologies in delivery.
  • Maximize learning opportunities for each student.
  • Stay informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction.
  • Demonstrate genuine concern for each student through personal conferences.
  • Make suggestions for curriculum improvement.
  • Familiarize with and comply with all college policies and procedures.
  • Serve on college committees as needed.
  • Be actively involved in co-curricular activities.
  • Convey college-related information to students in a timely manner.
  • Teach all classes according to an approved syllabus.
  • Participate in program and curriculum review and development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete scholastic records.
