About The Position

The Adjunct Commercial Music Instructor at Antelope Valley College is responsible for performance instruction and/or classroom teaching in various music-related subjects, including theory, appreciation, songwriting, and the music industry. The role may involve teaching up to 10 hours per week and requires the instructor to adapt to the department's needs, which may include day, evening, and weekend assignments, as well as distance learning formats.

Requirements

  • Any bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment, OR any associate degree AND six years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

  • Proven record of success in teaching commercial music courses at the college or high school level
  • Evidence of successful teaching a wide range of commercial music courses
  • Ability to coordinate programs of study and advise commercial music majors
  • Ability to play one or more instrument(s)
  • Commitment to quality instruction

  • Knowledge of Career Technical Programs
  • Knowledge of Program Review, Student Learning Outcomes data collection and reporting
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty across the disciplines within Performing Arts

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver instructional lectures for music courses up to 10 hours/week
  • Organize and teach all levels of commercial music classes
  • Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning
  • Teach day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments, which may include distance learning and accelerated courses
  • Assess Student Learning Outcomes every semester
  • Evaluate and select instructional materials in collaboration with discipline faculty
  • Revise and update course content and materials of instruction
  • Participate in department, division, and college-wide initiatives and committees
