About The Position

Renton Technical College welcomes faculty who have a commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to utilize a variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success. Given the diversity of our student population, we encourage applications from faculty who can adapt teaching methods to a wide range of student backgrounds and interests. Instruction is seeking an instructor to teach a 2 credit COL 101 (College Success) course for new students at Renton Technical College. Course delivery may be online asynchronous or in person at RTC campus. Instruction will focus on building relationships between students and faculty, making effective use of campus resources, and developing strategies and behaviors that lead to college, career and personal success. This position will support RTC's first year experience, part of our Guided Pathways work. Requirements

  • Earned bachelor's degree in education, or closely related field, and three (3) or more years of closely related work experience in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience teaching in an online environment (including full online, hybrid, or web-enhanced).
  • Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team in collaborative instructional situations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Earned master's degree in higher education, Student Development, Counseling, Advising, Developmental Studies, Education, or closely related field preferred.
  • Commitment to using and developing strategies and practices that enhance student success, equity, diversity, and completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility.
  • Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate multicultural competence and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Effectively teach the adopted curricula for College Success courses, including study strategies, technology resources, goal setting, mental health resources, team and communication skills, personal safety against violence, and diversity and inclusion awareness.
  • Use inclusive instructional strategies, including group, small groups and individualized instruction, to reach all students.
  • Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning outcomes, including thoughtfully designed individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and standardized tests.
  • Participate in the development and review of curriculum.
  • Create an atmosphere of trust and openness.
  • Provide support for students transitioning to college expectations.
  • Guide students in creating a career plan and an educational plan.
  • Maintain and submit student records, documentation, including assessment reports.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.

Benefits

  • Compensation at $1,058 per credit for lecture (theory) credits, with additional pay factors for guided practice instructional credits.
  • Master's or Doctorate degree stipends paid on a prorated per credit rate.
