About The Position

The Adjunct CDL Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive hands-on training to individuals pursuing a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This role involves conducting behind-the-wheel training and evaluating trainee performance to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The CDL Trainer plays a key role in preparing trainees for a successful career in commercial driving while promoting a culture of safety and responsibility. This position is ideal for experienced drivers passionate about sharing their knowledge and ensuring the next generation of CDL holders is prepared to excel safely and professionally.

Requirements

  • Valid Unrestricted Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 4 full time years of paid commercial driving experience with manual transmission.
  • Strong communication and instructional skills.
  • Ability to operate and train with various types of commercial vehicles.
  • Patience and a commitment to fostering trainee success.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse learners.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Self-directed with the ability to remain flexible.

Nice To Haves

  • A graduate of a truck driving program.
  • Previous experience as a CDL trainer or instructor.
  • Ability to write and teach paper logs.
  • Safe Accident-free driving record for most recent 200,000 miles or 2 years.
  • Familiarity with advanced safety technologies in modern commercial vehicles.
  • Knowledge of federal and state CDL regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintenance Reporting experience.
  • HazMat, D/T, Tanker, Passenger endorsements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on training in vehicle inspection, skills range maneuvering, and on-the-road driving.
  • Following and implementing effective training plans tailored to individual trainee needs and learning styles.
  • Administer practical assessments to evaluate trainee knowledge and skill levels.
  • Maintain accurate records of trainee progress and training activities.
  • Stay updated on CDL regulations and best practices to ensure training content is current.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Responsible for effective Pre and Post-trip Inspections, and reporting defects of equipment in a timely manner.
  • Communicate regularly with trainees, staff, and relevant stakeholders to address concerns and provide feedback.
