About The Position

The instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Northwest-Shoals Community College campus as assigned. As a minimum, the related activities include instruction, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, or national professional activities and/or organizations. An instructor may be asked to perform other related duties as directed by the Division Chair, Department Head, appropriate dean level supervisor, or the President.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Automotive Service Technology or equivalent (at least sixty (60) semester hours in a planned program including associate degree core), required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years full-time work experience as a practitioner in the Automotive Service Technology field, required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and instruct courses.
  • Keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of exams and assignments.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to student success.
  • Provide a safe and stable learning environment.
  • Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy.
  • Plan each unit or lesson, as to content, method, and organization to make each class period meaningful.
  • Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled.
  • Teach all classes according to an approved syllabus.
  • Keep students informed concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Hold final exams at the time scheduled in the College's semester schedule unless permission to deviate has been approved.
  • Recommend textbooks, instructional materials, and on-line theory and lab curriculum.
  • Accommodate differing student learning styles in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Participate consistently in professional development related to his/her field and current trends for in-person, on-line, and hybrid instruction.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students.
  • Refer students to Student Services departments, as needed.
  • Work closely with the Division Chair on the development of annual division budgets.
  • Request material, equipment, and supplies as needed for the program.
  • Assist with registration.
  • Assist in the development of course offerings each term.
  • Post and maintain office hours for student consultations.
  • Participate in program and curriculum review and development.
  • Compile and dispense required reports in a timely manner.
  • Actively promote program through recruitment, retention, success, and completion initiatives.
  • Assist the Office of Strategic Partnerships in establishing a work-based learning program.
  • Assist in the completion of the program's institutional effectiveness plan.
  • Attend faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as required.
  • Become familiar with and comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Serve on and provide information to college committees as needed.
  • Convey college-related information to students in a timely manner as requested.
  • Maintain accurate and complete scholastic records.
