About The Position

Adjoint Instructors are Clinical Faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine that work at Children's Hospital Colorado – Colorado Springs location in an emergency care setting. They provide medical care to acutely ill and injured infants, children, and adolescents in our 24/7 and afterhours network of Emergency facilities. In this role, they perform history and physical examinations to define and execute appropriate workup that leads to diagnosis, treatment, and disposition. Work in this setting will require technical and procedural skills and provision of procedural sedation and may require pediatric resuscitation and advanced life support.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
  • Active Colorado NP or PA license or ability to apply
  • Current DEA or ability to apply
  • Current PALS Certification
  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check
  • Advanced understanding of pediatric disease and injuries
  • Understanding of a familiarity with resources to assist making clinical decisions and diagnosis.
  • Use of electronic medical record (EPIC)
  • Teaching of medical learners
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced, acute care environment for 8-12 hours at a time
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with professional composure
  • Promote teamwork amongst providers, nurses, techs, learners and other colleagues
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and skill in customer service delivery
  • Well organized and efficient
  • Skill in prioritizing patient and system needs
  • Knowledge of quality improvement, family centered care, and evidenced-based practice
  • Work a mix of days, evenings, weekends and possibly overnight shifts

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years' experience in pediatric acute care environment
  • Prior use of EPIC
  • Technical skills required (may include the following based on your credentialing with CHCO): Initial interpretation of plain radiographs Laceration repair (including vermillion border and nail bed repair Incision and drainage Nerve blocks Foreign body removal Reduction of minor digit fractures of joint dislocations Lumbar Puncture IV fluid management of electrolyte or endocrine derangements Acute respiratory care

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical coverage in a mixed shift model (days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays) for a 24/7 Emergency care network. Cover clinical shifts at Colorado Springs in pediatric emergency care:
  • Rotating sick-call (Jeopardy) coverage
  • Attendance and participation in section wide meetings, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, CME and local site meetings (attendance required and varies by meeting) is recommended.
  • Maintenance of skills required for provision of high quality, patient centered, safe urgent/emergent care of children.
