About The Position

The Air Defense Ground Equipment Mechanical Design Department is responsible for the mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes radar and communications shelter systems, electronic subsystems, launchers, hardware integration, and interconnects. We are seeking a motivated and driven Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Ground Equipment Design Team. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise and hands-on experience in mechanical hardware design, system integration, program execution, and production support. Role is an On-Site role in Tewksbury or Andover, MA.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role, including a minimum of 8 years focused on the design and development of mechanical equipment—preferably in military or defense environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams, with accountability for cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.
  • Hands-on mechanical design experience, including performing trade studies, developing concepts through detailed design, and supporting transition to production.
  • Experience in executing Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analyses.
  • Broad expertise in mechanical design, development, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.

  • Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Working knowledge of military and commercial specifications and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of major programs within the department, including shelter mechanical design, electronic equipment integration, end-item development, vendor coordination, and the integration of power and cooling systems.
  • Support ongoing sustainment of existing product lines.
  • Support and lead cross-functional engineering teams, delivering solutions and services across all phases of the program lifecycle.
  • Lead and contribute to proposal efforts and Estimate at Completion (EAC) activities, providing strategic and technical input.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) across multiple programs, providing critical and timely support to ensure successful execution and delivery.
  • Oversee the technical performance of the design team, providing engineering guidance and project support throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Support and lead Technical Data Package (TDP) development and conduct/oversee thorough peer reviews.
  • Drive Hardware Engineering organization initiatives aimed at improving team productivity, technical execution, and overall efficiency.
  • Lead mid- to large-sized cross-functional engineering teams as the technical execution lead across all development phases.
  • Perform complex mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and major end items for defense system applications.
  • Provide product integration support for both domestic and international factories and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, non-technical stakeholders, and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
  • Manage and meet schedule, cost, and technical performance commitments for assigned tasks and projects.
