INDUS provides industrial support services across the Undersea Weapons Department (Code 30), Test and Evaluation Department (Code 20), Undersea Systems & Sustainment Department (Code 40) and Unmanned and Theater Undersea Warfare Systems Department (Code 50), of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport (NUWCDIVKPT). Requirements include providing technical support services associated with various industrial operations, depot repair activities, and torpedo intermediate maintenance functions. Reporting to the Program Manager, for the NUWCDIVKPT Industrial Support Services (ISS) contract, the Additive Manufacturing Machinist performs applied manufacturing techniques using a variety of polymer machines and one metal printer using 6061 stainless steel for prototyping and production work. The incumbent also can be employed/cross-trained in CNC programming, operating, and set up activities supporting HAAS CNC equipment in a classified setting. This requires self-starting, continual learning, and flexibility across multiple systems. This position is located in Keyport, WA.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • HS Diploma required.
  • At least five (5) years of hands-on machine operation experience.
  • Must possess basic Understanding of Manual Machining Processes.
  • Blueprint Reading and GD&T: The ability to interpret technical drawings, including GeometricDimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols, is essential for programming accurate tool paths.Math Skills: Proficiency in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry is necessary for calculating coordinates, tool paths, and machining parameters.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot industrial additive manufacturing systems.
  • Prepare builds through proper machine setup, including material handling, parameter selection, build orientation, support strategies, and calibration of critical systems (lasers, optics, extrusion heads, and thermal controls).
  • Diagnose and resolve print failures and defects such as warping, delamination, porosity, incomplete fusion, recoater interference, extrusion inconsistencies, and powder spreading issues across metal and polymer platforms.
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance including filter changes, powder handling system checks, nozzle/extruder servicing, laser calibration, and inert gas system verification.
  • Monitor and adjust process parameters for materials including 316L, 17-4 PH, Inconel 625/718, ASA, ABS-ESD7, PC-ABS, Ultem 9085/1010, Nylon 11, and Nylon 12 to ensure part quality and repeatability.
  • Interpret machine logs, sensor data, and build reports to identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols for powder handling, high-temperature systems, and inert gas Quality System ISO 9001:2015 Registered and Certified environments.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Familiarity with these systems is a plus for beginners.

  • G-Code Programming: HAAS machines primarily use G-code, the standard CNC programming language.While manual G-code programming is less common today, understanding it is valuable for troubleshooting and making on-the-fly adjustments.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, operate, and troubleshoot Additive Manufacturing systems including Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) (e.g., EOS M290), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) (e.g., Stratasys F900mc), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) (e.g., Vanguard Si2), and Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) (e.g., HP 4200). In addition, based on available tasking, cross-train on HAAS systems to fabricate precision components in support of Code 42 operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with machinists, engineers, and other team members to resolve technical issues and ensure production accuracy and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship in all machining tasks.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure proper setup and machining processes.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
