The Additive Manufacturing Engineer II at Rocket Lab is responsible for supporting the development of various additive manufacturing technologies, specifically for the Rutherford and Archimedes engines. This role involves process development, design for additive manufacturing, and collaboration with engineering teams to ensure effective production and post-processing of printed components. The position is based in Long Beach, California, and is part of a pioneering team focused on advancing space technology through innovative manufacturing solutions.

  • Develop printing parameters for various metallic alloys using DED and LPBF methods.
  • Create new and improve existing print programs.
  • Provide engineering support for day-to-day additive manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate with downstream support functions to ensure effective post-processing of print geometries.
  • Provide critical feedback during the design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) process.
  • Work closely with design and manufacturing engineers to design for specific types of additive manufacturing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of professional experience with metal additive manufacturing.
  • Experience with LPBF additive manufacturing of metallic materials.
  • Firm understanding of DfAM fundamentals.
  • Experience modeling in Siemens NX or SolidWorks.
  • Proficient in additive-focused software such as Materialise Magics or 3DXpert / Amphion Suite.
  • Master's Degree in Material Science, Additive Manufacturing or equivalent.
  • 3+ years experience in additive manufacturing process development.
  • Strong additive simulation experience.
  • Experience on LP-DED platforms.
  • Ability to create and deliver accurate and concise presentations for design, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision in a timely manner.
  • Strong work ethic and capable of performing under pressure.
  • Strong ability to provide and clearly articulate technical direction.
