About The Position
The Addictions Counselor 1 position at the Russell E. Blaisdell Addiction Treatment Center (ATC) in Orangeburg, NY, is a full-time role that plays a crucial part in the multidisciplinary treatment team. The counselor will work under the supervision of a higher-level Addictions Counselor or Licensed Master Social Worker, focusing on the care and counseling of clients dealing with addiction issues. This position is essential for maintaining the health and safety of clients within the facility, which operates 24/7/365. The Addictions Counselor 1 will be responsible for managing clinical services and direct care for assigned groups of clients, ensuring that they receive the necessary support and treatment throughout their recovery journey. The role involves developing and providing both group and individual treatment services, particularly during evening and weekend programming. The counselor will conduct individual and group therapy sessions, facilitate recreational and vocational activities, and monitor patient compliance with treatment goals. Additionally, the counselor will be responsible for completing various assessments, maintaining documentation in accordance with OASAS procedures, and providing orientation to clients about the treatment facility's programs and policies. Crisis intervention is also a critical aspect of this role, as is maintaining relationships with various community agencies to ensure continuity of care for clients. The Addictions Counselor 1 will also participate in meal preparation, conduct routine rounds to document observations, and may transport clients using agency vehicles. The position requires participation in ongoing supervision and consultation to support workplace performance, as well as obtaining necessary training and continuing professional education. The counselor will be expected to perform other job-related duties as assigned, contributing to a supportive and therapeutic environment for clients in recovery.
