About The Position

Substance Use Counselor 📍 Baltimore, MD 💰 $22 to $25 per hour 🕒 Full-time| Shifts: 9AM-5:00PM| Monday-Friday Help Clients Begin Their Path to Recovery. Be the steady support clients need during treatment — guiding them through assessment, counseling, and care planning with compassion and clinical expertise. About Us Baltimore Crisis Response, Inc. (BCRI) is a nationally recognized nonprofit and Baltimore’s only comprehensive crisis response system. Since 1992, we’ve led the way in behavioral health crisis care — providing timely, community-based services for individuals and families experiencing mental health and substance use challenges. The Opportunity We are seeking a Substance Use Counselor to provide intake, assessment, treatment planning, and counseling for clients in BCRI’s 3.7 residential treatment unit. In this role, you’ll meet clients at a pivotal point in their recovery journey — conducting biopsychosocial assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and providing both individual and group counseling. You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that every client receives high-quality, coordinated care.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree and CSC-AD (or higher).
  • Minimum of 2 years working with individuals in the public behavioral health system (preferred).
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license (required).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (required).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with EHR/EMR systems (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling for clients in 3.7 residential treatment.
  • Complete biopsychosocial (BPS) assessments and initial treatment plans upon admission.
  • Review progress with clients and update treatment goals in collaboration with the care team.
  • Document all services in Credible (electronic medical record).
  • Prepare and submit initial and concurrent authorizations to payors/insurers.
  • Complete discharge summaries and coordinate discharge planning with the client’s care team.
  • Act as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders as assigned.
  • Uphold BCRI policies, expectations, and behavioral competencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that align with the scope of the role.
