About The Position

The Addiction Counselor is expected to respond to the clinical and operational needs of the program, including but not limited to conducting intakes, facilitating individual and group counseling, completing assessments, and supporting medication-assisted recovery services. Counselors may be assigned to, or provide coverage, at multiple program sites, including Easton Parkway, RIC, the Mobile MAR Unit, and/or Belvidere, to ensure consistent delivery of care across all substance use disorder programs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of therapeutic methods, principles and practices.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public.
  • Skills in planning, developing and implementing individualized, therapeutic treatment plans.
  • Ability to provide sincere interest necessary to work with the patient population as well as exhibiting caring and respectful attitudes toward patient.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and follow directions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred not required.
  • One-year full-time experience providing substance abuse treatment/assessments
  • CADC Required

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and counseling services to patients enrolled in methadone and other substance use treatment programs.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, intakes, and treatment plan development in accordance with ASAM criteria and agency policy.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (nursing, medical, and administrative staff) to coordinate care and support medication-assisted recovery.
  • Respond to the operational needs of the program by providing rotational coverage across assigned locations, including Easton Parkway, RIC, the Mobile MAR Unit, and/or Belvidere.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention and ensure patient safety through adherence to established emergencies and clinical protocols.
  • Participate in case reviews, staff meetings, and training sessions as directed by the Program Director or COO.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive, recovery-focused treatment environment.
  • Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plans as needed to maximize successful patient outcomes.
  • Maintains accurate and thorough clinical records reflecting services provided to patients.
  • Provides outreach and consultation, prevention and treatment services as indicated by contracts and program needs.
  • Engages in appropriate discharge and aftercare planning with patients.
  • Monitors urine drops (same sex) as scheduled.
  • Maintains documentation in a timely, thorough and accurate manner.
  • Participates in in-service, extramural training and/or continuing education as requested.
  • Identifies and responds to high-risk events/behaviors that could jeopardize patients and/or staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or requested by supervisor.

  • Presents and maintains a professional image in dress, behavior, and work habits.
  • Performs all job functions in a professional manner.
