The ADC/DCC Correctional Officer I is responsible for maintaining security and overseeing the work of inmates in a correctional facility. This role involves observing inmate behavior, documenting records, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws as well as agency policies. The position is critical for public safety and rehabilitation initiatives within the Arkansas Department of Correction.

  • Supervises the security and conduct of inmates in various settings including cells, group meetings, and recreation.
  • Maintains perimeter security and monitors for escapees or disturbances from a tower.
  • Logs in visitors at the front gate and performs security checks of the facility.
  • Conducts shakedowns and strip searches of inmates as required.
  • Writes incident reports and takes disciplinary action on rule violations by inmates.
  • Escorts inmates to visitations, court, and work assignments.
  • Attends shift briefings to discuss incidents and security concerns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Formal education equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of human behavior and response.
  • Ability to monitor inmate activities and write reports.
  • Capability to perform security checks of buildings and grounds.
  • Skill in conducting investigations and exercising self-defense tactics.
  • Anticipated starting salary of $38,324.27
