Goodwill Industries of the Greater Chattanooga Area, established in 1923, is dedicated to helping individuals transform potential into opportunity. With 17 store locations and a service territory spanning 23 counties in two states, the organization operates a social enterprise model that benefits individuals by helping them secure meaningful jobs, provides donors with a social return on their contributions while keeping unwanted items out of landfills, and offers shoppers great prices on goods. Goodwill accomplishes its mission by providing education and career services, as well as on-the-job training, to persons facing barriers to employment such as multi-generational poverty, a history of incarceration, limited education, and no work experience. As a member of the Chattanooga Goodwill organization, employees contribute to strengthening the community and families by promoting independence and dignity, and also help care for the earth by diverting millions of pounds of material from local landfills annually. The organization's vision is a community where every person, regardless of ability, situation, or background, can achieve their greatest potential, with retail store revenue funding workforce development and community services programs. Goodwill values and respects the inherent dignity and worth of people, values truth, sets high standards, keeps promises, embraces continuous improvement and teamwork, respects open and honest communication, and fosters a culture of innovation, learning, and development through social enterprise, honoring entrusted resources with responsibility and care.
