About The Position

The position within the Recreational Therapy department includes the following: coordinating community-based adapted sports and recreational events beyond the HHH campus; monitoring and recording the use of funds related to adapted sports and recreational events; daily availability for consults with inpatients/outpatients, caregivers, or therapy staff regarding accessibility, durable medical equipment (DME), community resources, and support; attend weekly, inpatient rounds meetings with interdisciplinary team and provide verbal report when necessary; participate in community outreach and education engagements. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience designing and manufacturing adaptive equipment.
  • Two years of skilled experience in carpentry or a related trade, one year of which must have been designing and manufacturing adaptive equipment for individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of managing adapted sports and recreational activities for community members.
  • 1-2 years of peer mentoring experience for individuals and associated caregivers following an injury or illness regarding topics related to accessibility, durable medical equipment (DME), community resources, and support.
  • Experience with securing grants and funding to create or progress recreational programs that benefit individuals with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients and caregivers to provide support while demonstrating professionalism and empathy.
  • Experience with community outreach and education via public speaking engagements (i.e. ThinkFirst HHH Injury Prevention program).
