BASIC FUNCTION: Provides instruction in physical education to students with Individual Education Plans (IEP) who may not participate safely or successfully in the physical education program with their peers. Communicates and coordinates with all members of the IEP team. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The essential duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Design appropriate goals and instruction for individual learners Instruct student individually or in groups Plan, administer, and interpret student evaluations, preparing written reports as required Maintain student records sufficient to report progress on goals at prescribed review dates Participate in student IEP meetings Develop and maintain positive working relationships with parents/guardians Work closely with other members of the program staff to develop and maintain curriculum and standards Consult with other physical education teachers to successfully include students in class activities Participate in professional growth activities such as conferences, classes, staff meetings and visitations Provide training, direction, and supervision for assigned ancillary staff Requisition materials and supplies in a timely manner Maintain attendance accounting, submitting this and other required reports in a timely fashion Periodically evaluate program to ensure it is providing for needs of students Maintain contact with parents and general and special education staff throughout year to provide information regarding student progress Comply with the rules and regulations set forth in the California Education Code; Title V; Procedures and Policies of the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District Perform other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required

Requirements

  • KNOWLEDGE OF: • Current curriculum and instructional practices; • Oral and written communication skills; • Assessment practices in primary and secondary languages; • Laws and regulations relating to Special Education.
  • ABILITY TO: • Plan, organize and direct instructional activities for Special Education students; • Work effectively with staff, students, and parents; • Plan and coordinate the work of support staff; • Analyze assessment data.
  • Teaching experience at various grade levels, preschool through adolescence.
  • California Credential authorizing the holder to teach Adapted Physical Education
  • California Credential authorizing the holder to teach English Language Learners (CLAD, BCLAD, ELA, or equivalent)
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Current adult and child CPR/First Aid card

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree and/or post-graduate course work preferred.
  • Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities.
