About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Benefits the ADA Coordinator is responsible for serving as a central point of contact for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related federal and state accessibility laws. The ADA Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that Montclair State University provides equal access and reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. This Temporary assignment is a minimum of 35 hours per week and will commence immediately; the initial anticipated duration of the assignment is approximately four to six months months.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three years of experience managing ADA-related accommodation requests and facilitating reasonable accommodations in compliance with applicable laws, including participation in the interactive process.
  • Strong knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its application in higher education settings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with state and federal laws related to reasonable accommodations, nondiscrimination, and the interactive process.
  • Coordinates the University’s response to disability-related requests.
  • Engages in and manages the interactive process with employees, including timely communication, evaluation of accommodation requests, and ongoing dialogue.
  • Partners with supervisors, managers, and Human Resources to support the interactive process and implementation of approved accommodations.
  • Interprets medical and educational documentation to determine eligibility for requested disability-related accommodations.
  • Provides direct support to employees and supervisors related to accommodations, including referrals to appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Documents the interactive process thoroughly and chronologically, and maintains accurate and confidential records related to accommodation requests and ADA compliance.
  • Meets and engages with supervisors, managers, and Human Resources partners to facilitate and support the interactive process and implementation of approved accommodations.
  • Participates in proactive outreach to new and prospective employees to understand their disability-related needs.
  • Reviews and applies University policies, procedures, and applicable union contracts when evaluating accommodation requests and determining appropriate actions.
  • Researches and stays informed on best practices and trends in accessibility solutions.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
