About The Position
The Acute Pharmacy Technician position at Banner University Medical Center Tucson involves working in a dynamic inpatient pharmacy environment that provides medications to patients across various hospital departments. This role is crucial as the pharmacy dispenses approximately three million doses of medication annually, catering to a very acutely ill population and ensuring that pharmacy services are available 24 hours a day. As a member of this elite team, you will engage in a variety of tasks including filling medications, stocking shelves, taking inventory, and delivering medications to nursing units. The position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy Level 1 Trauma Center, where you will work closely with pharmacists and nursing staff to deliver exceptional patient care. In this role, you will become proficient in using advanced pharmacy technology, including robotics and electronic dosage preparation systems. You will also gain experience with automated dispensing units, specifically the Pyxis medication dispensing system, which is integral to the pharmacy's operations. Daily responsibilities may require you to walk significant distances within the hospital and handle heavy boxes or totes, emphasizing the physical demands of the job. You will also have the chance to learn about compounding procedures, IV preparation, and total parenteral nutrition compounding, further enhancing your skills in inpatient pharmacy operations. The position offers full-time evening and varied shift options, with specific schedules that include weekends and holidays. Evening shifts typically run from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, while varied shifts may include both day and evening hours.
