Job Summary: Manages the overall coding education development, implementation, delivery, and program maintenance for hospital coders. Ensures that AH facility coders are following all coding regulations, policies and procedures via managing the training and education of coders, CDI, compliance, quality and other revenue cycle support staff on clinical documentation improvement and coding best practices. Reviews medical records and coding documentation for accuracy and ensuring that coding and reporting practices are in accordance with federal and state laws while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives for AH. Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices for coding and reporting. Plays a critical role in ensuring that medical facility billing and coding practices are accurate, efficient, and in compliance with regulatory requirements, ultimately contributing to improved patient care and financial sustainability of the organization.

Requirements

  • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Five years' related experience: Preferred
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with Certified Coding Specialist (CCS): Required
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS): Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manages the overall facility coding, inpatient and outpatient education program for hospital facility coders to include course plans, objectives and evaluation tools.
  • Develops and administers continuous coding education in-service for facility Adventist Health inpatient and outpatient doders to update, refresh, remediate or acquire new skills necessary for coding accuracy and competency.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership, compliance, coding, CDI, quality and auditing to identify coding education opportunities, coder knowledge gaps and develop a coding education pathway to address the gaps.
  • Develops and administers focus ad-hoc education to mitigate coding trends to ensure proficiency and quality meets company standards.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
