About The Position

The position involves providing assistance and performing basic activities of daily living and specified treatments and procedures under the direct supervision of a nurse. The role may also include non-direct patient care activities such as stocking and clerical tasks as assigned or directed.

Requirements

• 2 years High School Education
• Age 17 with work permit
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Reading and math ability appropriate to the position

Responsibilities

• Performs and documents basic patient care tasks under the direct supervision of an RN.
• Maintains competency of tasks in which the PCA has been trained.
• Completes assigned tasks within required timeframe and seeks clarification from the nurse when in doubt.
• Maintains a safe environment and reports safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
• Completes safety event reports as necessary and complies with Infection Control policies.
• Demonstrates knowledge of safety/emergency policies and procedures.
• Communicates effectively with others and shows respect to patients, families, and co-workers.
• Reports patient-related information and problems in a timely manner.
• Documents observations and tasks performed.
• Works in collaboration with all members of the health care team.
• Performs supply, equipment, and environmental-related activities as required.
• Recognizes, reports, and follows up on issues with supply/equipment availability.
• Acknowledges the need for self-growth and accountability.
