About The Position

The Acute Care Surgeon will hold clinic at Minneapolis Surgical Specialists (on ANW campus) approximately 2 times a month and will operate at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. The position involves managing a patient load of approximately 20-35 patients on the census per day, which typically translates to rounding on 5-12 patients daily, with a higher load on weekends. The surgeon will rotate between primary (daytime), backup (daytime), and night call acute care surgeon duties, with 10-hour day shifts, 14-hour night shifts, and 12-hour weekend shifts, totaling around 190 shifts per year for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE). Call responsibilities include approximately 4 weeknight calls every 5 weeks and about 1 in 5 weekends. There is an option to participate in activation call models at regional sites, which involves seeing consults and performing cases as needed. The role also includes participation in hospital and system-wide committees, resident and student education, and the option for research if interested.

Requirements

  • Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine.
  • Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Residency training program and/or fellowship in General Surgery.
  • Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required if working in MN upon hire.
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 3 - Multisource required depending on business unit within 180 days.
