Medical/Surgical nursing is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who present with physical, emotional, or psychological alterations of health. This type of nursing involves care for acute and chronic illnesses in various settings, covering conditions such as cardiac, oncology, stroke, joint, spine, post-surgical, palliative, psychiatric, and end-of-life issues for patients over 12 years of age. Medical/Surgical nurses apply the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of human responses.
