About The Position

Medical/Surgical nursing is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who present with physical, emotional, or psychological alterations of health. This type of nursing involves care for acute and chronic illnesses in various settings, covering conditions such as cardiac, oncology, stroke, joint, spine, post-surgical, palliative, psychiatric, and end-of-life issues for patients over 12 years of age. Medical/Surgical nurses apply the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of human responses. Stormont Vail Health is a nonprofit integrated health system with over 130 years of service in Kansas. Recognized as a Magnet® organization since 2009, it comprises Stormont Vail Hospital, a 586-bed acute care facility, and Cotton O’Neil Clinic, a multi-specialty physician group with more than 500 providers. Requirements

Registered Nurse - KSBN or a multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas.
Basic Life Support - BLS (Must have within 90 days of hire. RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.)
Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution.
Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning.
Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution.
Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
