About The Position

Intermediate Care nurses provide direct care or influence care for acutely ill adult patients who are moderately stable with an elevated risk for instability. These patients require a high intensity of care and vigilance. Intermediate Care nurses practice in settings where patients require complex assessment and interventions. These nurses are required to refine their assessment skills supported by invasive/non-invasive technology.

Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect. Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas, supports the effectiveness of professional relationships, and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice. Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings. Practices Diversity, Equity and Inclusion principles in their daily work by respecting others’ uniqueness, perspectives, backgrounds or beliefs. Communicates effectively in all areas of professional practice. Mentors nurses new to their role for the purpose of ensuring successful enculturation, orientation, competence, and emotional support. Requirements

• Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution.
• Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning. Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution.
• Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted.
• Basic Life Support - BLS Must have within 90 days of hire. RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.
